I was recently invited to take on a tiling project at the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. The team wanted to give their cafeteria area a fresh, modern look while ensuring the space remained practical and easy to maintain.
They opted for classic white metro tiles with grey grout, a timeless combination that brightens the space while offering a clean and stylish finish. As the walls were already tiled but had become outdated over time, I decided to tile directly over the existing surface rather than remove the old tiles. This approach allowed us to maintain the integrity of the built-in stainless steel fittings while ensuring a secure and lasting fix.
Work began on a Tuesday, which the team advised was one of their quieter days, allowing the refurbishment to take place with minimal disruption. By lunchtime the next day, the transformation was complete, leaving the cafeteria with a fresh and updated appearance.
During my time on-site, I was truly impressed by the incredible work the RVS team does for the community. Their dedication and passion were evident, and it was great to see volunteers from all walks of life coming together to provide such a valuable service. As I worked, many visitors to the center took the time to compliment the new tiling, reinforcing just how much of an impact a well-executed upgrade can have.
All tiles and materials for this project were supplied by Topps Tiles in Tunstall. The RVS team was delighted with the final result, and I was proud to contribute to such a worthwhile organization.
